This week in culture, we got a little bit of everything: high fashion, viral brass sections, and a death metal beauty queen. Willy Chavarria took home Designer of the Year, Texas Southern’s Ocean of Soul blew up our feeds with a Como La Flor remix, and Ignácia Fernández proved crowns and growls can coexist as Miss Chile 2025.

Atlanta’s Latest Sports Flex, A New NWSL Team

Atlanta heard the NWSL was expanding and immediately cleared space in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The city has been flirting with a women’s pro team for almost a decade, and now the moment is finally here. Arthur Blank and AMBSE are taking the lead, and if their track record with Atlanta United tells us anything, Atlanta is about to go big on women’s soccer.

The club will begin play in 2028 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which will get a few soccer-specific tweaks to make it feel like home. Blank is also building a new training facility and assembling a dedicated leadership team, treating the launch less like a startup and more like a contender from day one. Commissioner Jessica Berman pointed to Atlanta’s energy and established fan culture, noting that the city already acts like a soccer capital.

And with the way Atlanta fills stadiums, the NWSL may have just unlocked an instant blockbuster.
